NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Odds: Week 1 Update
It’s a tight race in the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (DROY) awards market this season. Laiatu Latu from the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Turner from the Minnesota Vikings are betting co-favorites to win 2024 DROY, both at +400 odds at top betting sites.
Latu, a defensive end and top edge rusher in the 2024 NFL Draft class, is a popular pick to win the DROY this year. Edge rushers, which include defensive linemen and linebackers, have won the DROY seven times out of the last ten seasons. The other three DROY winners since 2013 were cornerbacks.

In 2023, two rookies from the Houston Texans were honored when quarterback CJ Stroud won the OROY and defensive end Will Anderson Jr. won the DROY. You can check out the top NFL OROY odds here.
NFL DROY Odds Week 1 Updates
Dallas Turner has taken a slight lead over Laiatu Latu according to US betting sites. He was instrumental when the Vikings shut down the Giants 28 – 6 with 3 tackles and 1 sack. Meanwhile, Latu was part of a struggling Indiana defense that conceded 29 points to the Texans.
Laiatu Latu (DE, Indianapolis Colts)
Best DROY Odds: +400 Consensus
The Colts selected Latu with the #15 pick in the draft out of UCLA, where he recorded 10.5 sacks and won the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Scouts were keen on Latu as the most consistent edge rusher in college football last season. The Colts needed to bolster their defensive line and took a flier on Latu despite his injury history. During the preseason, the coaching staff were impressed by Latu’s polished pass-rush moves and assorted bag of tricks.
Dallas Turner (LB, Minnesota Vikings)
Best DROY Odds: +450 DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook
The Minnesota Vikings traded up in the draft to select Turner, a linebacker from Alabama, with the #17 pick. Turner won the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC as the anchor of Nick Saban’s defense. He was also highly regarded as the top linebacker in the draft.
Brian Flores enters his second season as the defensive coordinator of the Vikings. Flores relies on a deceptive defensive scheme filled with pre-snap disguises. One of the reasons the Vikings drafted Turner was his versatility and ability to drop back in pass coverage.
Turner’s best price to win DROY is +450 odds at both DraftKings Sportsbook and Caesars. Some bettors are concerned about Latu’s injury history, which is why a steady flow of money has been backing Turner to win the DROY.
Jared Verse (LB, Los Angeles Rams)
Best DROY Odds: +950 Caesars
Aaron Donald abruptly retired, so the Los Angeles Rams focused on defense during the draft. They selected Jared Verse with the #19 pick out of Florida State. Verse recorded nine sacks during each of his previous two seasons at FSU, and he dazzled scouts at the combine with his speed. The Rams have a huge gap in their defense without Donald, but Verse is the first step in revamping their front seven.
Byron Murphy II (DT, Seattle Seahawks)
Best DROY Odds: +1400 FanDuel
The Seattle Seahawks hired Mike Macdonald as their new head coach. Macdonald engineered one of the toughest interior defenses in the NFL the last few seasons. With the #16 pick, the Seahawks selected Byron Murphy II, a dynamic defensive tackle known for his explosiveness and versatility.
Terrion Arnold (CB, Detroit Lions)
Best DROY Odds: +1400 FanDuel, BetMGM
The Detroit Lions selected cornerback Terrion Arnold with the #24 pick. Arnold snatched five interceptions last season for Alabama and played solid man coverage with an exquisite ability to quickly change direction. Arnold is the top rookie cornerback on the awards board.
Chop Robinson (LB, Miami Dolphins)
Best DROY Odds: +1600 DraftKings, Caesars
Chop Robinson, a linebacker from Penn State, was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the #21 pick. Robinson recorded 11.5 sacks during his college career and impressed the Dolphins with his speed, making him a top candidate for DROY.
