The New York Jets (2-6) are in a tailspin and trying to end a five-game losing streak when they host the Houston Texans (6-2) on Thursday Night Football. We found some good value and the best TNF prop bets from the leading NFL betting sites including several Texans vs Jets player props involving CJ Stroud, Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Davante Adams, Joe Mixon, Braelon Allen, and Tank Dell.
Everyone that bets on the NFL is wondering the same thing: how the heck are the Jets a -2 favorite over the Texans? It’s a short week and the Jets are at home. They’re overdue for a win and the banged-up Texans have not exactly been destroying teams despite a 6-2 record.
The points total is 42 over/under. The Jets allow 21.3 points per game and ranked #20 in defensive DVOA. The Texans allow 22.4 ppg, yet ranked #2 in defensive DVOA.
The Texans average 23.5 ppg with a middle-tier offense. The Jets average 18.8 points per game as the eighth lowest scoring team in the NFL, yet they put up only 16.6 ppg during their five-game skid.
Best TNF Props: Touchdowns
Texans running back Joe Mixon is the consensus favorite to score the first touchdown at +425 odds, an anytime touchdown at -145, and multiple touchdowns at +400. In five games, he scored six touchdowns including five rushing scores.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 8. Tank Dell will become CJ Stroud’s primary target against the Jets with Nico Collins still on the IR. Dell is +185 odds to score an anytime touchdown. He has two touchdowns this season, but scored both over the last three games.
PLAYER | FIRST TD ODDS | ANYTIME TD ODDs | 2+ TD ODDS |
---|---|---|---|
Joe Mixon | +425 | -145 | +400 |
Breece Hall | +450 | -135 | +450 |
Davante Adams | +750 | +135 | +1000 |
Garrett Wilson | +900 | +170 | +1300 |
Tank Dell | +1000 | +185 | +1400 |
Braelon Allen | +1400 | +310 | +2500 |
Dalton Schultz | +1500 | +300 | +3000 |
Robert Woods | +2200 | +450 | +5500 |
The Jets have numerous offensive weapons, yet they’ve been struggling to find the end zone. Running back Breece Hall has the best odds on the Jets to score an anytime touchdown at -135. We like rookie running back Braelon Allen to score an anytime touchdown at +310 odds as one of our best TNF props.
Wide receiver Davante Adams scored only one touchdown in five games this season, but he has not scored since joining the Jets in a trade two games ago. He’s +135 odds to score an anytime touchdown.
Garrett Wilson was the primary wide receiver on the Jets and had scored one touchdown in each of the two previous games before the Adams trade. He hasn’t scored since Week 6, but he’s +170 odds to reach the end zone on TNF.
Best Texans vs Jets Player Props: Passing
Both teams have two elite passing defenses. The Jets are ranked #2 and allow only 161.1 passing yards per game. The Texans are ranked #3 and they allow 164.3 air yards per game.
Stroud averaged 243.5 passing yards per game this season with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. His yardage total is 222.5 against the Jets, which will be the best secondary he’s faced this season. He has four games with at least 260 yards, including two with more than 330 yards in a game. Yet, the under looks enticing on various betting apps considering his top two wide receivers are out.
Stroud has three multi-touchdown games this season, but tossed only one touchdown in the last two weeks. He’s +170 odds to complete more than 1.5 touchdowns, but a huge favorite at -270 odds to throw less than 1.5 touchdowns.
QUARTERBACK | PASSING PROP | OVER ODDS | UNDER ODDS |
---|---|---|---|
Aaron Rodgers | 234.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Aaron Rodgers | 1.5 TDs O/U | +120 | -155 |
CJ Stroud | 222.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
CJ Stroud | 1.5 TDs O/U | +170 | -270 |
Rodgers has a passing total of 234.5 yards, which he exceeded three times during their five-game losing streak. If the Jets didn’t have to play on a short week, we’d look at the over. Considering the Texans have a strong secondary, we’re eyeing the under for both quarterbacks.
Rodgers tossed seven touchdowns in his last four games, with multi-scores in three of those. Aside from an ugly 10-9 loss against the Broncos, Rodgers threw at least one touchdown in every game this season. His touchdown total on TNF is 1.5 o/u, but he’s -155 odds to hit the under and +120 odds to go over.
Although Rodgers did not throw any interceptions last week, he tossed six in the previous three games. Over 0.5 interceptions will pay out -120 odds.
TNF Texans vs Jets Player Props: Receiving
With their top wide receivers out, options are limited for the Texans. Tank Dell has a total of 58.5 receiving yards. Dell averaged only 32.7 yards per game this season as WR #3, but he’s now the main dude with both Collins on the IR and Diggs dunzo for the season.
Tight end Dalton Schultz averaged 27.9 yards per game, but his TNF total is 43.5 yards. Sauce Gardner and the Jets will focus on shutting down Dell, so Schultz will have to step up. He tied a season high with four catches on six targets for 52 yards in Week 8 after Diggs hurt his knee.
PLAYER | RECEIVING PROP | OVER ODDS | UNDER ODDS |
---|---|---|---|
Garrett Wilson | 62.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Davante Adams | 59.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Tank Dell | 58.5 Yards O/U | -120 | -110 |
Dalton Schultz | 43.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Breece Hall | 28.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Wilson tallied a season-high 113 yards in Week 8, which marked the third 100+ yard game of the season. All three occurred over the last four games. Wilson averaged 16.5 targets and 10.5 receptions in the previous two weeks before Adams’ arrival. In two games with Adams, Wilson averaged 5.0 receptions on 8.5 targets. Rodgers decreased his target rate by nearly 50%. Yet despite only catching five balls last week, Wilson still posted his best game of the season with 113 yards.
Wilson averaged 71.6 yards per game this season. Without Adams, he averaged 66.5 yards. With Adams, Wilson averaged 87.0 yards per game. It’s a small sample size, but Wilson is doing more with fewer opportunities and making bigger plays.
Meanwhile, Adams averaged 42.0 yards in two games with the Jets. He’s getting 7.5 targets per game with only 3.5 receptions. Could this be a breakout game? His total on TNF is 59.5 yards. The Jets have been using Adams as the decoy to get Wilson chances to make big plays.
Texans vs Jets Player Props: Rushing
Mixon appeared in only five games this season due to a high-ankle sprain, but he averaged 100.6 yards per game. In Week 2, he rushed only nine times for 25 yards before he exited with an ankle injury. He rushed over 100 yards in the other four starts. When he finished the game, Mixon averaged 119.5 yards.
We love Mixon to exceed 78.5 yards against a weak Jets’ run defense as one of our best TNF props.
PLAYER | RUSHING PROP | OVER ODDS | UNDER ODDS |
---|---|---|---|
Joe Mixon | 78.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Breece Hall | 66.5 Yards O/U | -115 | -115 |
Braelon Allen | 20.5 Yards O/U | -120 | -110 |
The Jets have two strong running backs, yet they have one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL due to a horrendous offensive line. It’s probably best to avoid player props involving the Jets running backs because never know how many snaps each player will get in any given week.
Hall averaged 53.5 rushing yards per game this season. His rushing total is 66.5 for TNF, which he exceeded only twice this season but both instances occurred since the Jets demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and stripped him of play-calling duties. In the last three games, Hall saw an uptick in production and touches. He averaged 15.3 carries for 77 yards.
Allen averaged 23.4 rushing yards per game, and his TNF total is 20.5. The Jets fed Allen the ball last week with 12 carries, and he produced 32 yards and a touchdown.
Hall also has a prop bet for combined yardage. He averaged 39.5 receiving yards per game, and averaged 93 total yards from scrimmage per game. His total on TNF is 99.5, which he exceeded twice in the last three games.
