Winning the Super Bowl is one of the most thrilling moments in an NFL’s coaches career, but they know what will happen afterwards: a couple of guys from the team dump a big ol’ cooler of Gatorade on you! This has led to one of the most bet on props for the Big Game: which color is the Gatorade?
In 2024, Kansas City is facing off against San Francisco in the Super Bowl 58, and purple is in the lead for Gatorade color odds with +250. Last year, Kansas City dumped purple Gatorade on coach Andy Reid, which makes it an excellent choice for this year as well. However, orange has been the most popular color since early 2000s. More notably, orange was last seen in 2020 when Kansas City beat … San Francisco! It could be a sign to choose orange, you never know.
Below are the complete odds for Gatorade colors for this year’s Super Bowl betting. Clear means a water bath instead of Gatorade, which is not a common occurrence, and no bath would be sad but it has happened before. What will be your pick this year?
Purple | +250 |
Red | +275 |
Yellow/Green | +300 |
Orange | +300 |
Blue | +350 |
Clear | +1000 |
No Gatorade Bath | +1600 |
Where Can You Bet on the Gatorade Color?
In the U.S., only select states have allowed bets on the Gatorade color prop. In other states, you can wager on the more athletic feats of the event, although the Gatorade cooler is heavy too. In the states where you can bet on the Gatorade color, many sportsbooks offer the market and you can compare the odds if you are rooting for purple and these odds seem too low. Below are the states where betting on the Gatorade color odds is allowed:
- Arizona Sportsbooks
- Indiana Sportsbooks
- Louisiana Sportsbooks
- New Jersey Sportsbooks
- Washington D.C. Sportsbooks

How to Bet on the Gatorade Bath
Betting on the Gatorade color is very simple. You need a sportsbook account to get started; you can click on the links above to get to a list of legal online sportsbooks in your state. Once you’ve chosen a betting site, you can sign up and claim the welcome bonus (it might not be applicable to this type of wager). Once you have your sportsbook account, you can bet on the Gatorade bath!
There are a couple of things you need to know before you make your wager. Since the Gatorade bath is not an event that is officially recorded, the sportsbooks have their own rules on what wins the bet. Most often, it is the first Gatorade poured on the head coach, as photographed and showed in the broadcast.
Second, the sportsbook we’ve chosen here offers “no bath” as a betting option. If there is no such option and the bath doesn’t happen, you might lose your bet or get your money back, depending on the betting site.
The odds are set based on the previous colors and overall popular Gatorade colors, but there’s no real science behind it. It all depends on the oddsmakers’ opinions, but also on the favorite’s likeliness to have each type of Gatorade. Since last year Kansas City won and used purple Gatorade, it seems likely they’ll go with tradition and have purple on deck should they win again. But we don’t know that for sure! Keep this in mind as you wager; this is meant to be just silly fun so don’t take it too seriously if the winners pull out just water when you went for the blue.
As for the odds: if you bet on orange at +300, a $10 wager would win you $30 if it’s correct. You can find out how much you’d win with the other odds from our odds calculator.
Previous Colors
As mentioned, in 2023 purple ruled. However, historically it’s pretty close; orange leads the pack with 5 appearances. Blue and clear have been featured 4 times, yellow and purple 3 times. Note that red hasn’t been chosen once since the fun tradition began in the 1980s; is this the year of the red? In addition, the head coach has been able to walk away from the field bone dry four times.
Although the tradition isn’t as old as the Super Bowl itself, it’s beloved by players and fands alike. In the past 10 years, only New England saved coach Belichick from the Gatorade bath, but otherwise blue has been the way to go. If you want to take a look at the stats, here are the 15 most recent Gatorade baths:

Explaining the Gatorade Bath Tradition
The Gatorade bath (or shower, if you prefer that) has been a staple of the Super Bowl for decades now. It comes at the end of the game when the winning team is certain, either right before or after the final whistle.
It often starts the post-game Super Bowl celebration for the winners, as some enthusiastic players grab the cooler and pour it over their coach. The Gatorade cooler is often filled with ice as well, making it an icy bath no matter where the game is played.
Since all the teams have Gatorade and water at their sidelines, oddsmakers take a look if they can see what color the teams have had on hand during the season. This is why there are some popular colors like orange, blue, and yellow that appear on the odds every year.
As the lighthearted event isn’t directly tied to a specific event during the game, it’s often graded based on what we see on the screen. However, since everyone knows to anticipate the event, at least one camera is glued to the winning coach in the hopes of catching the bath.
Other similar fun and non-game related NFL betting props are the coin toss and halftime show shenanigans. This year, many sportsbooks have pulled out Taylor Swift themed props in anticipation of her attendance. So no matter what you want to wager on, there’s plenty of options in this year’s Super Bowl!
